KCI’s R&D provides innovative technology,
expertise and develops functional materials
for household goods and cosmetics.
KCI’s R&D, which develops products that customers need while considering their
perspectives, will lead the rapidly changing global cosmetics ingredients market
based on accumulated technology and creativity.
KCI’s R&D has developed cationic surfactants such as Polyquaternium-10, Cationic guar polymer, and Behentrimonium Chloride, etc. which are used as conditioning agents in hair care through the technology of 4th-grade cationic ionization and also, developed Polyglyceryl and Polyglyceryl Esters with the condensation polymerization of glycerin and fatty acids. In addition, we have developed the MultiCare series of emulsion thickening agents using emulsion polymerization multifunctional composite manufacturing technology and are supplying this to worldwide customers. The product development team is developing high-quality and low-irritant products based on natural materials trending globally and is leading the development of functional products that enhance the performance of their formulation. Through succeeding in commercializing the biomaterial MPC (2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) for medical supplies, it is being applied to the field of contact lenses and we are conducting research with various domestic and oversea institutions to apply it to various medical supplies.

Bio-compatible materialsDeveloped MPC (2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) and MPC derivatives that mimic phosphorylcholine, the main component of the human cell membrane. MPC has characteristics of hydrophilicity and protein non-adhesion. It also has biocompatible properties that suppress rejection and inflammatory responses in the human body, and it is being utilized in medical supplies, contact lenses, in-vitro diagnostic reagents, and the regenerative medicine field.

Polyglyceryl Ester CondensationWe have developed Polyglyceryl with various degrees of polymerization through the condensation polymerization of glycerin. Additionally, we have developed Polyglyceryl Esters with a variety of HLB values through the condensation polymerization of palm oil fatty acid and polyglycerol with various degrees of polymerization. Polyglyceryl Ester is a naturally-derived, mild and PEG-free emulsifier.

KCI’s R&D operates a technology support center
tailored to the needs of customers.
The Solution Team is responsible for developing formulations for hair care, skin care, sun care and color care products as well as for the safety and efficacy evaluations related to eye and skin irritation, moisturization, and skin penetration effects.
KCI’s R&D conducts technical training on various cosmetic formulations as well as basic education on raw materials for customers. The Solution Lab is a space for education and research for customers, where customers and KCI researchers jointly develop cosmetic formulations and find solutions in the shortest time through joint research with customers on problems arising from formulations.
